Zinc Replacement and Bottom Cleaning

Why change zincs? Changing zincs yearly is one of the most important prevenatative maintenance tasks that a boat owner can do. Without quality zincs in good condition your boats metal parts will become pitted and propulsion parts can break and fail causing catastrophic damage or sinking.

Why Should a boat owner have the bottom cleaned? Cleaning a boat bottom can be done to prevent growth build up of marine life. Tube worms and barnacles can reduce efficiency underway and may lead to hull damage. Cleaning a boat with even light growth prior to a long cruise will pay for itself in fuel savings. When bottom paint ages, the copper or other anti-foulant additive has leached out of the paint. The loss of antifoulant allows these marine organisms and plants to grow. Many boats without paint or years old paint look like artificial reefs from underneath!
